The Mitutoyo 972-107 is a 400 × 250 × 50 mm black granite square made to DIN 876 grade 00. It is used on a surface plate as a reference for checking the squareness and perpendicularity of components, fixtures and machine tools.

Natural granite does not deteriorate or change dimension over time. It is hard, non-magnetic, has low thermal expansion and does not burr, so the square keeps its accuracy over a long service life without damaging workpieces or instruments.
