The Mitutoyo 102-717 Ratchet Thimble Micrometer has a constant-force ratchet built into the thimble, so it applies the same measuring force whether you turn the thimble or the speeder. That makes it much easier to get accurate, repeatable readings one-handed, even for less experienced users, with a clear audible click when the preset force is reached. The frame is heat-insulated and the measuring faces are carbide.
